Biography:
Dr Reggemore Marongedze is a Digital Humanist, Computational Linguist, Medical Humanist, Digial Literary Critic, Artificial Intelligence Specialist and Ethnomusicologist known for his interdisciplinary digital expertise as well as a fecund background in African languages and literatures. He is currently a Digital Humanities research associate in the Department of Department of Linguistics and Applied Linguistics at Nelson Mandela University, a Digital Humanities lecturer in the Department of History Heritage and Knowledge Systems at University of Zimbabwe. Dr Marongedze is a research fellow in the school of Social and Political Sciences at University of Glasgow, Scotland and the Living Tongue Institute of Endangered Languages, America. He obtained his PhD in Languages, Linguistics and Literature from the University of South Africa at the age of 27, having started lecturing at 25 in the then Department of African Languages and Literature at University of Zimbabwe. His academic background includes an MA in African Languages and Literature and a BA Honours in Shona, both from the University of Zimbabwe. With over nine years of teaching experience, Dr Marongedze has published and delivered modules across a wide range of subjects, including literary studies, digital humanities, arts and music, dances, cultural studies, linguistics, digital media and gender studies, history, cultural heritage and conservation, visual arts and drama/theatre. He has led several Digital Humanities projects, collaborating with students and international organisations, showcasing his commitment to digital innovation, research and education. Thus, he has produced numerous digital products which inter alia include mobile apps, repositories, chatbots, videographic productions, animations and web-based platforms. Dr Marongedze is recognised as a thought leader in establishing the MA in Digital Humanities at the University of Zimbabwe. His expertise has led to invitations as a keynote speaker at various prestigious institutions, including the University of Eswatini, University of Glasgow, South African Centre for Digital Languages Resources (SADiLaR) and the University of Johannesburg, University of Venda as well the 2025 engagements, as a digital trainer, at the Digi-Methods Media and Journalism Summer School at Rhodes University and AI Summer School at British Institute in Eastern Africa (BIEA). He is a research fellow at The Living Tongue Institute of Endangered Languages in the America and Economic and Social Research Council United Kingdom (ESRC-UK) funded researcher in the School of Social and Political Sciences at the University of Glasgow. Dr Marongedze has also held fellowships at the African Languages Research Institute at University of Zimbabwe and the National Language Centre at Midlands State University. His scholarly contributions have been recognised through participating in diverse conferences, hackathons, seminars, workshops, guest lectures, radio and television invitations coupled by numerous publications in prestigious journals, including those from Sage and Taylor & Francis, as well as with respected international publishers like Palgrave Macmillan and Routledge. Dr Marongedze has received diverse accolades, the recent ones including the 2024 E-commerce and Digital Trade Platforms for Industrial Value Chains Exhibit award from the University of Zimbabwe. He has also been recognised for innovative approaches to combating vandalism and theft of infrastructure using digital art forms in 2024. Certified in Intellectual Property Law by African Regional Intellectual Property Organisation (ARIPO) and as an e-lexicographer by The Living Tongue Institute of Endangered Languages, Dr Marongedze is a committed revitaliser of endangered languages and cultural heritage. He is a practising academic editor, translator, AI producer and designer whose major translation consultancy involved the translation of the Zimbabwean constitution from English into 14 indigenous languages hired by the Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs of Zimbabwe.

3. Translated two Shona short stories, from Shona to Ndau, written by a renowned novelist Ignatius Mabasa entitled Nyoka yaGwinyai (Gwinyai’s Snake) to Nyoka NgeyaGwinyai and Meri neBhutsu Tsvuku (Meri with Red Shoes) to Meri neGwada rekuTsvuka in Affiliation with Bhabhu Books Publishing Company.
